Lauren McGrath, though originally from Houston, Texas, currently lives in New Orleans while attending Tulane University. She is a sophomore architecture student and has had a couple of art and writing pieces published in past high school literature magazines.
The pieces’ shared name is “Turning Back,” and both are done on scratch art with black acrylic paint. The pieces allow for an interpretation of the adults either turning their backs on their childhood counterparts or facing them and reflecting on the playful wonder of their childhoods. Either way, it does not change the fact that colorful wonder is still underneath; it is a choice to reveal it or not.
