Brent Oakes is currently living in San Antonio, Texas. He went to Trinity University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Trinity University. While finishing his undergraduate degree he took a sculpture course at UTSA and this is where he found enjoyment in working in the plastic arts.
Luxury Goods is both an homage to Brent’s love of computers, as well as a criticism of capitalism. The juxtaposition of using wood to house the silicon of the computer is to have the natural materials be connected. The screen shows a loop of varying commercials of the 1990; in addition, the housing has been slowly corrupted by the reckless force of capitalism.
