Mandy Campbell

Resting Place (Lyrics)

Melted wax and soot from candles
Water stains and a broken handle
Mar the wooden table by our bed
But all I see is your golden wedding ring
It’s been awhile since I looked at pictures
When the gleam in your eye still flickered
Before the pain and the endless meds
Made this empty space permanent between us

Why visit your resting place
When I know you’re really in a better place
Where mortal minds can’t comprehend
The joy and beauty that will never end
Where our greatest dreams will seem like shadows
And the tears we shed in your final hour
Will fade away

Remember when I poured the water
On your head from a drinking bottle
You would’ve laughed if you weren’t so mad
But now I see it’s just a fading memory
So now I think about you in the light
Healed and whole with your eyes so bright
No worries, pain, or earthly fears
‘Cause you know one day this empty space won’t be here

Why visit your resting place
When I know you’re really in a better place
Where mortal minds can’t comprehend
The joy and beauty that will never end
Where our greatest dreams will seem like shadows
And the tears we shed in your final hour
Will fade away
Will fade away
Will fade away…
