By Jordan Tate

Maybe if we had bought our bands
any other time but our second date
any other place but the local Walmart
any other mood but deeply aroused
by now we might’ve been divorced
Maybe the trick was doing something
with the love of a gambler and faith
of a junky so that despite our intentions
even the pawn shops wouldn’t help us
get rid of our sterling silver bad choice
turned matching feather tattoos turned
honeymoon turned our baby girl turned
many more trips to Walmart with a cart
pausing at the ring case before we start
